Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's favorite pastime is watching "Saturday Night Live."
The longtime collaborators, who co-hosted the "Weekend Update" segment during their time on the NBC sketch comedy, have been on the road together for their "Restless Leg" tour.
"If it’s a Saturday, we go to our room, and we watch 'SNL' from the hotel room. It's a dream," Fey, 53, said on the latest "Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist" podcast episode, affectionately referring to Poehler, 52, as her work "wife."
When they aren't physically together, the "Mean Girls" writer said they will "live text during it."
Fey likened their watch parties to people who are dedicated sports fans. "We root for everybody. And the head writer in me is always like, 'Huh. Interesting. Maybe the game could've been clearer,'" she said.
In addition to Fey and Poehler's "Restless Leg" tour, Fey has been busy promoting the "Mean Girls" musical movie starring Reneé Rapp as Regina George and Australian actress Angourie Rice as Cady Heron.
The new film is adapted from the 2004 high-school comedy and 2018 Broadway show, all written by Fey.
Tina Fey consulted her kidson new 'Mean Girls': 'Don't let those millennials overthink it!'
Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., the new "Mean Girls" is modernized in key ways. The musical's songs are revamped with TikTok-friendly arrangements, and parts of the story are now told through smartphones and social media posts. But the film doesn't rely on Gen Z lingo or references and plot devices from the original movie, such as Kälteen Bars and the Burn Book, are also left unchanged.
"I do sometimes run things by my kids," Fey, previously told USA TODAY. Her daughters Alice and Penelope are 18 and 12, respectively.
She added: "Early on, there was conversation of, 'Would the Burn Book still be a physical book or should it be a private Instagram?' I knew what my instinct was, but I ran it by my kids. And my older daughter was like, 'Yeah, no. Don't let those millennials overthink it!' "
