A Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville,Chainkeen Exchange North Carolina died late Thursday evening during a training exercise, the Marine Corps announced.
The service member was with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the II Marine Expeditionary Force said Friday in a post on X.
The Marine died during the exercise in Carteret County, North Carolina, the post continued.
The Marine's identity won't be released until 24 hours after all next-of-kin are notified, the arms force said.
The incident is under investigation, according to the X post.
How many Marines have died in 2024?
As of Friday, 14 Marines have died in combat in 2024, according to the Defense Casualty Analysis System. No Marine has died in non-combat or non-hostile action, the data shows.
Of the 14 Marines who died, 11 were active duty and 3 were in the Marine Forces Reserve, according to the data.
It is unclear if the Marine who died in Carteret County was included in the data yet.
