PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 3-year-old girl was critically wounded in a shooting in northwest Philadelphia over the weekend, authorities said.
Officers responding to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital shortly before 1:30 p.m. Saturday found that the child had a single gunshot wound to the right eye, police said.
The child was taken to the hospital by private vehicle after the shooting occurred in the East Germantown neighborhood, police said. The girl was being airlifted to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and listed in “extremely critical condition.”
Police said they were holding the shooting scene and the transporting vehicle as they investigate. A weapon was recovered, and a man taken into custody for questioning, police said. No information was immediately released about the circumstances of the shooting.
